Our research-based verdict
Alien Rug Grips are worth considering for a rug that shifts on a suitable smooth floor when its backing can accept an adhesive pad. They are a less persuasive solution for a badly curled, damaged or unsuitable rug that still creates a trip hazard after its corners are restrained.
A small test is more useful than the broad floor-safe promise on the package. Check the floor manufacturer’s guidance and the rug backing before treating a dozen adhesive squares as a universal answer. We have not tested removal on your finish or the grip after repeated cleaning.

Reasons to consider it
- Precut squares need no large-sheet trimming.
- Reusable design is intended for repeated placement.
Trade-offs
- Floor-finish and rug-back compatibility need checking.
- No independent slip or residue testing here.

What matters in daily use
The 12-piece set uses 4×4-inch pads rather than a full underlay. This can suit discrete contact points and avoids cutting a large sheet, but it also leaves most of the rug’s underside unsupported. Decide whether the problem is corner curl, whole-rug movement or a need for cushioning before choosing pads over a proper rug underlay.
Bell + Howell describes the pads as removable, rinsable and reusable. That is the intended maintenance approach, not an independently verified number of reuse cycles. Dirt, floor treatments and backing texture can affect the contact surfaces, so inspect performance after cleaning or moving the rug.

Evidence and unanswered questions
The official listing and package image agree on 12 pads, 4-inch square dimensions and model 6543. We did not measure slip resistance, adhesive residue, finish discoloration or reuse life. The marketing examples of wood, tile, marble and granite do not establish compatibility with every coating on those materials.
Nor does the word non-slip certify a fall-prevention system. A secure corner is only one part of a safe rug arrangement. The edge should remain flat, and the floor and surrounding walking route should be kept clear.

Fit, care and safety checks
Test an inconspicuous area and follow the rug and floor care instructions. Do not put adhesive onto delicate, flaking or freshly treated surfaces without compatibility approval. Remove slowly as instructed rather than pulling up a rug abruptly and risking damage.
Do not rely on these pads as a safety-critical restraint on stairs or where a failed grip would create a serious fall risk. Inspect for curling and movement after installation and periodically afterward. Stop using them if the rug still shifts or the finish shows a change.

Before ordering
Match the 12-pack of 4×4-inch Alien Rug Grips, model 6543. Alien mounting tape, draft seals and other adhesive formats are separate products. Count the intended contact points and compare with a continuous rug pad rather than selecting solely on piece count.

Common buying questions
Will they leave absolutely no residue?
The manufacturer makes that claim, but we have not verified it across finishes. Test and follow surface-care guidance.
Do they replace a full rug pad?
Not automatically. Small adhesive squares and a full underlay solve different fit and cushioning problems.
Are these Alien mounting tape?
No. This review covers the precut 6543 rug-pad set.
