Verdict: straightforward weighing for ordinary kitchen quantities

The Escali Primo makes sense if you want to weigh flour, portion dough, or add ingredients to a bowl without navigating a complicated interface. Its two controls keep the basic routine simple. A one-gram display step is suitable for many everyday recipes, but it is the wrong specification to choose when a fraction of a gram matters.

This research-based review covers the Chrome P115C, ASIN B0007GAWRS. We have not tested accuracy, repeatability, response speed, or battery life. Our recommendation rests on its documented functions and limitations rather than a laboratory score or a claim that every unit will reproduce a reference weight perfectly.

Reasons to consider it

  • Simple two-button control
  • Tare supports bowl and sequential weighing
  • Gram, ounce, and pound-and-ounce modes
  • Replaceable AA batteries

Trade-offs

  • Not waterproof
  • One-gram resolution limits tiny quantities
  • Large bowls can obscure the display
  • No independent accuracy testing here

Facts: Chrome is the finish, not a stainless-steel body

The selected retailer listing identifies part P115C and the Chrome color, while Escali’s care and setup pages explicitly include P115C in the Primo family. The listed body material is plastic. Do not confuse this finish with the optional stainless-steel platform cover or a different metallic color code.

The manual specifies a 5,000-gram maximum load, two AA batteries, and automatic shutoff after four minutes without use. Taring removes a bowl’s weight from the displayed number; it does not remove that weight from the physical load on the scale. Include the bowl when planning a heavy batch.

Features: tare is the useful everyday shortcut

Put an empty bowl on the platform, zero the display, and add an ingredient. You can zero it again before adding the next ingredient. That workflow reduces the need to calculate the bowl’s contribution or transfer several separately measured portions, although you must still keep track of what you have already added.

The unit button changes the displayed measurement system. Check the unit symbol before pouring: a plausible-looking number in the wrong mode can undermine an otherwise careful recipe. For a recipe written in grams, staying in grams also avoids unnecessary conversion and rounding.

The round platform sits behind the display. Before buying, consider your most-used mixing bowl: its base needs stable support and its rim should not hide the reading or prevent access to the buttons. A huge bowl can be awkward even when its total weight remains comfortably below the scale’s limit.

Research: display resolution is not an accuracy test

One-gram increments describe the display’s steps, not a verified error tolerance for every measurement. We would choose a suitable higher-resolution scale for tiny additions rather than expecting this model to distinguish fractional grams of yeast, spice, or another concentrated ingredient.

Source details are not completely uniform. The manufacturer manual lists 0.1-ounce increments; the retailer text lists 0.05 ounce. Both support one-gram operation. If fine ounce increments are central to your workflow, confirm the supplied unit and current instructions before purchase.

The current manufacturer family page lists 8.5 × 6 × 1.65 inches, while the selected retailer’s description gives 8.5 × 6 × 1.5 inches. The footprint is consistent, but a tight drawer should be measured with clearance rather than relying on the smaller height. We have not measured the P115C ourselves.

Safety and care: protect the electronics and load cell

Escali’s instructions call for a hard, flat, even surface. Avoid a soft mat, unstable board, or vibrating appliance nearby. Let the display settle and place the container gently instead of dropping it onto the platform. If the overload message appears, remove the load immediately.

The sealed control panel helps guard against accidental spills, but the manufacturer explicitly says the scale is not waterproof. Wipe it with a damp cloth and do not submerge it or put it in the dishwasher. Keep cleaning liquid out of the battery compartment.

Use new batteries of the same type and follow the marked polarity; do not mix old and new cells. If readings drift continuously or an error persists, follow Escali’s troubleshooting guidance or contact support. Do not treat a questionable reading as reliable simply because the display still turns on.

Buying advice: match the scale to the quantity

Choose the Primo for gram-level kitchen weighing and a simple interface. Consider a different scale when you need higher capacity, fractional-gram measurement, a larger or separately visible display, or waterproof construction. Those needs are more consequential than the color of the housing.

Check that the selected offer is Chrome P115C rather than a similarly named Primo variant, then confirm included batteries, any optional cover, seller, return terms, delivery, and final total. Use the current-offer link below; no fixed price, availability, or warranty outcome is promised here.

Questions: useful answers before the first recipe

Does tare increase the weight capacity?

No. The bowl and all ingredients still contribute to the scale’s total physical load, even after the display has been zeroed.

Can it measure tenths of a gram?

No. The documented gram increment is 1 g. Choose a suitable higher-resolution scale if fractional grams are important.

Can I rinse the whole scale?

No. Escali specifies damp-cloth cleaning and says the unit is not waterproof.

Does Chrome mean it is made of metal?

No. The P115C listing describes a plastic body with a chrome-colored finish. A stainless-steel platform cover is a separate accessory.
