Verdict: useful simplicity if you will wash and dry by hand

The Kuhn Rikon Original Swiss Peeler three-pack is worth considering for a kitchen that wants several small, straightforward peelers and is willing to dry them after every wash. The important compromise is maintenance. A carbon-steel blade should not be treated as a utensil that can sit wet in the sink.

This is a research-based review of red, green, and yellow set 2784, Amazon ASIN B001BCFTWU. We have not tested peeling speed, food waste, grip comfort, or blade life. The appeal is the uncomplicated Y-shaped design and three matching tools, rather than a promise of superior performance on every fruit or vegetable.

Reasons to consider it

  • Three matching straight-blade peelers
  • Left- and right-hand use specified
  • Integrated potato-eye remover

Trade-offs

  • Hand washing and thorough drying required
  • Three-pack adds no alternate blade styles
  • Very sharp blades need careful handling

Facts: three colors, one straight-blade design

Kuhn Rikon identifies this US set as SKU 2784 and states that the peelers are made in Switzerland. Amazon’s model field also identifies 2784. The reviewed assortment contains red, green, and yellow handles; regional assortments with grey handles use other identifiers.

The listing provides a separate potato-eye remover on the head. Treat that as an additional cutting point during storage and washing. We have omitted a definitive item weight and footprint because retailer and manufacturer dimensions differ and do not clearly describe the same individual-tool or set measurement.

Features: compact tools with deliberate duplication

Three identical peelers can make sense when two people prepare ingredients together, when one often disappears into a crowded drawer, or when you want a spare. If only one peeler is ever used, the pack may simply add clutter. The extra handles do not expand the range of cuts you can make.

The Y layout puts the blade across the top of the handle. Whether that feels natural depends on how you hold both the produce and the tool. Someone accustomed to a long, in-line peeler should consider the change in grip instead of assuming a smaller body will automatically feel easier.

The plain handles are visually easy to distinguish by color. You could reserve each for a different prep station, but color coding by itself does not clean a utensil or prevent cross-contamination. Washing between tasks remains part of ordinary kitchen care.

Research: verify the steel and the actual set

Our review uses the official US set page, Amazon’s identifying fields, and manufacturer pages that clarify care and regional variants. No standalone official manual for this simple three-pack was found. The product’s own Use and Care section is the relevant instruction source.

The distinction between carbon steel and stainless steel is central to the buying decision. Do not substitute the description of a different Swiss Peeler, a serrated Piranha model, or a julienne product. A broad retailer search may display several of them together even though they serve different needs.

We do not turn a manufacturer’s sharpness claims into a measured ranking. Long-term value depends on whether you like the grip, maintain the blade, and actually use the spare tools. There is no substantiated replacement interval to promise here.

Safety and care: the blade needs attention after washing

Follow the US instruction to hand wash and dry thoroughly. Kuhn Rikon’s related Original Swiss Peeler page specifically warns that damp carbon steel can rust. A wet drying pile is therefore a poor routine for this design; make drying and safe storage part of the same cleanup task.

The manufacturer warns that these very sharp peelers are not for children. Keep fingers out of the blade’s path and reposition the produce before your hold becomes awkward. Do not use the potato-eye remover as an excuse to reach into a position where the main blade can contact your hand.

Buying advice: choose the right pack for your routine

Confirm SKU 2784, the three straight blades, and the red/green/yellow selection before ordering. If you want a serrated peeler or fine vegetable strips, select a product explicitly designed for that task. This pack is not a three-function peeling kit.

Check the seller, quantity, final total, shipping, and return terms. Buy it because the form and care requirements suit you, not because a three-pack automatically represents better value. The link opens the current Amazon offer without a static price or stock claim.

Questions: blades, drying, and handedness

Are the three blades different?

No. SKU 2784 contains three straight-bladed peelers. The colors distinguish the handles; they do not indicate a serrated blade or a julienne cutter.

Can I put them in the dishwasher?

The manufacturer specifies hand washing and thorough drying. Choose a different product with explicit dishwasher approval if that is a firm requirement.

Why does drying matter?

These blades are carbon steel. Kuhn Rikon warns on its Original Swiss Peeler care page that leaving the blade damp can cause rust.

Are they suitable for left-handed cooks?

Kuhn Rikon explicitly describes the design as usable in either hand. That does not establish comfort for every person; the short Y-shaped handle still needs to suit your grip.

Is the grey three-pack the same listing?

The official red/green/grey set is SKU 24281 in the UK. This review and affiliate link concern the US red/green/yellow set, SKU 2784.
