Verdict: useful monitoring if you accept the app and range limits

MEATER Plus in Honey is worth considering for cooks who want to watch a roast’s temperature without repeatedly opening the oven or handling a wired probe. The completely wireless probe and phone display are the attraction. The tradeoff is a system that needs charging, a compatible app, a reliable Bluetooth path, and correct insertion before it can help.

This research-based review covers the original single-probe MEATER Plus, ASIN B07H8WTFHW. It is not the newer MEATER Pro or Pro XL. We have not measured temperature accuracy, connection reliability, maximum range, or meal quality. If you primarily need occasional spot checks, a straightforward instant-read thermometer may be a better fit.

Reasons to consider it

  • Wireless probe without an oven-door cable
  • Internal and ambient temperature display
  • Bamboo dock boosts Bluetooth connection
  • Guided app and temperature alerts

Trade-offs

  • 165-foot claim depends on conditions
  • App and charged probe required
  • Not for direct flame or searing
  • Original probe requires handwashing

Facts: one probe, two sensors, and a bamboo booster dock

The probe measures food temperature internally and cooking-air temperature at its exposed end. The original Plus limits are 212°F for the internal sensor and 527°F for the ambient sensor. Those are equipment limits, not recommended temperatures for eating food.

The Honey package includes one probe, its bamboo charging dock, a AAA alkaline battery for the dock, and safety instructions. The dock also acts as a Bluetooth repeater. MEATER advertises up to 165 feet of range, but walls, closed appliances, and placement can reduce it. Do not treat that headline as a verified distance through your home.

MEATER lists the probe at approximately 5.12 inches long and 0.24 inches thick. Its size and minimum-insertion requirement make suitability depend on the food. A piece too small to cover the safety notch is not an appropriate use just because a phone can display a temperature.

Features: planning help without automatic cooking

The app displays temperatures, offers a guided cooking process, and provides alerts and estimated cooking and resting times. In principle, this can help coordinate sides with a larger piece of meat. An estimate can change as the food heats, however, so plan some flexibility rather than treating a countdown as a serving-time guarantee.

The absence of a cable can be convenient around an oven door or a rotating spit. It does not remove heat restrictions. For a rotisserie in particular, the meat still needs to hold the probe securely past its insertion mark, and the cooking arrangement must stay within the original Plus safety rules.

Keep the dock near the cooking appliance while protecting it from heat and moisture. Before depending on alerts, check that the app remains connected from the place you expect to monitor the cook. A signal problem during dinner is a practical reason to keep another suitable thermometer available for verification.

Research: editorial attention is not a measured viral trend

Popular Mechanics published a dedicated MEATER Plus review dated March 26, 2026. That establishes recent editorial attention to this model family, not current viral momentum, audited sales, or a guarantee that another person’s wireless experience will match your home.

Our model-specific conclusions come from the original Plus support guide, care pages, and Plus safety PDF. During research, the support guide’s English manual link opened a Pro/2 Plus document. We located the correct original-Plus PDF separately. This matters because transferring newer-model heat claims would materially misdescribe the product.

Safety: no searing or direct flame with the original Plus

Insert the probe beyond its safety notch into food before cooking. Do not use it above hot coals or flame, or leave it inserted for searing. The original Plus manual explicitly says to remove it before that step. Move food away from heat before inserting or removing the probe, and use heat-resistant gloves; the probe can be hot.

Do not exceed 212°F internally or 527°F at the exposed sensor. Never use it in a microwave or pressure cooker. Keep the dock off hot surfaces and away from water. These restrictions apply even if a promotional photograph looks like a more demanding cooking setup.

Handwash the original Plus probe according to its Alpha Collection care guidance, let it cool before cleaning, and dry it completely before charging. Keep the charging contacts clean. Do not transfer dishwasher-safe claims from newer MEATER models.

For food safety, follow the appropriate minimum internal temperature and resting time, and check the relevant parts of the food. FoodSafety.gov specifies 165°F for poultry and 160°F for ground meat; whole beef, pork, veal, and lamb cuts generally require 145°F plus a three-minute rest. App doneness preferences and demonstration screenshots do not override that guidance.

Buying: choose the original Plus with its limitations in mind

Confirm the Amazon selection says MEATER Plus, Honey, single probe, ASIN B07H8WTFHW. Check your phone’s current app compatibility, seller, included dock, return terms, and live price. A similar bamboo case is not enough to identify the generation.

Choose this model for app-based monitoring within its temperature limits, with food large enough for proper insertion. Choose a different tool if searing with the probe inserted, tiny food portions, or dependable monitoring through substantial obstructions is essential. We do not promise a future support period or a particular connection distance.

Questions: original Plus ownership details

Is the 165-foot range guaranteed?

No. It is an up-to manufacturer claim. Appliance construction, obstacles, and dock placement affect the connection; we have not performed a range test.

Can the probe stay in during searing?

No. The original Plus manual says to remove it before searing and prohibits direct hot-coal or flame exposure. Newer-model advertising does not change that.

Can I wash it in the dishwasher?

The original Plus belongs to MEATER’s Alpha Collection, whose probes are not designed for dishwasher cleaning. Follow its care guidance and fully dry it before docking.

Does one probe measure two pieces of meat?

No. The two sensors measure internal food temperature and ambient temperature. They do not independently monitor the centers of two separate pieces.
