Verdict: best for people who can plan dessert ahead

The Ninja CREAMi Deluxe NC501 is a sensible choice for cooks who enjoy choosing ingredients and preparing dessert bases in advance. Its larger tubs and partial-processing controls are useful when a household wants more than one serving or different mix-ins. The trade-off is a routine that starts well before you press a button.

Our recommendation is conditional on freezer space and willingness to follow recipes. Someone who wants a spontaneous frozen dessert from an unfrozen mixture may be disappointed by the necessary preparation. Before buying, picture two tubs occupying level freezer space alongside your normal groceries.

Facts: the first-generation Deluxe and its tubs

Ninja identifies NC501 as the first-generation Deluxe 11-in-1 and includes two 24-ounce XL tubs, lids, the outer bowl assembly and Deluxe paddle. Two tubs let you prepare separate recipes, but the machine processes one installed tub at a time.

The US controls cover Ice Cream, Lite Ice Cream, Sorbet, Gelato, Frozen Yogurt, Creamiccino, Frozen Drink, Slushi, Milkshake, Italian Ice and Mix-In, with a separate RE-SPIN control. Regional versions and newer generations can have different labels and functions.

Follow each marked fill line for the selected recipe. The nominal tub size is not an instruction to fill every base to its rim, particularly when a drink program calls for a later liquid addition.

Features: portion choices and recipe flexibility

TOP and BOTTOM support processing portions separately; FULL handles the whole prepared tub. The owner guide excludes partial modes from drinkable programs. That distinction matters if you imagine splitting every type of recipe into two on-demand servings.

For bases that require freezing, the guide specifies at least 24 hours on a level surface. Some store-bought ice-cream milkshakes avoid that preparation, but they begin with an already frozen ingredient. This is not refrigeration inside the appliance.

For ownership, the attractive feature is a repeatable routine: prepare a base you like, keep a tub ready, and vary the finish. The less attractive version is buying many ingredients and accessories before discovering whether you enjoy that routine. Start with a small set of manufacturer recipes.

Research: viral attention does not settle the generation question

Parade’s June 9, 2026 Deluxe article discusses CREAMi’s TikTok popularity. The writer explicitly tested a UK version with a different program selection. We use it as dated evidence of editorial attention, not as our own testing or proof that every result transfers to this US model.

Current retailer language alternates between Deluxe and XL Deluxe. NC501 is the dependable identifier. Ninja’s page advertises eleven programs even though one generic specification field says twelve; the photographed control panel and product description support the eleven-program identity used here.

For extra containers, Ninja lists NC501 against XSKPNTLD2 24-ounce XL tubs. The same page names NC500/NC600 compatibility and excludes several smaller CREAMi families. Read the specific compatibility list before purchasing replacements, especially when third-party listings use broad titles.

Safety and care: flat bases and correct assembly

Do not process a tub frozen at an angle or unevenly refrozen after scooping. The guide instructs owners to thaw, recombine and refreeze an uneven base correctly. It also prohibits ice cubes, solid ice blocks and hard loose ingredients; this is not a general blender.

Inspect the paddle before use, keep hands and utensils clear, and never bypass the lid interlock. Unplug before cleaning or troubleshooting. Separate removable parts for top-rack dishwasher washing; keep the motor base out of water.

Recipe customization deserves the same care as assembly. A program name does not establish that any ingredient substitution will behave well or confer a health benefit. Choose recipes for flavor and texture, and check ingredient labels for your own dietary requirements.

Buying advice: budget for the routine, not just the machine

Choose NC501 when larger prepared batches and its program range match what you intend to make. Compare alternatives if your priority is smaller portions, immediate refrigeration or a dispensing soft-serve format. More programs add little value if you only want one familiar recipe.

Before ordering, verify NC501, the silver selection, both included tubs, current seller, return terms and delivered total. Consider whether you need additional compatible tubs at all. Leave room to install and remove the bowl, and verify dimensions with the seller when cabinet clearance is tight.

Questions: what to know before ordering

Does it make ice cream immediately from room-temperature mix?

No. Recipes requiring a frozen base need preparation and advance freezing. Processing time is only one part of the overall wait.

Do ordinary 16-ounce CREAMi pints fit?

Ninja’s XL-tub compatibility page excludes NC100, NC200, NC299 and NC300 families. Buy tubs explicitly listed for NC501 rather than assuming the brand name guarantees a fit.

Can it make two flavors in one tub?

The partial-processing design lets you customize portions separately. This is most useful when two people want different mix-ins from the same prepared base.

Does the Deluxe dispense soft serve?

This NC501 processes treats in its tub. It is not the Scoop & Swirl machine with a dispensing system.

How many servings is 24 ounces?

That depends on the portion. A 24-ounce container does not establish a universal family serving count; plan around the recipe fill limit and your bowls.
