Verdict: a useful sink upgrade if the rim fits
The BLUE GINKGO Over-the-Sink Colander makes sense for someone who frequently rinses produce and wants the basket above the basin. The Grey SC-2020 expands lengthwise, so it can bridge a compatible sink while water drains underneath. The deciding purchase question is physical fit: the ends need a secure resting place, not merely a basin narrower than the advertised maximum.
This is a research-based review of ASIN B087RQCQQZ. We have not tested its sliding mechanism, stability under a heavy load, or long-term resistance to staining. Its strongest use case is everyday fruit and vegetable preparation. For rice, quinoa, or other small grains, buy a fine-mesh strainer instead.
Reasons to consider it
- Keeps rinsing work above the sink basin
- Adjustable length and dishwasher-safe construction
- Can double as a small drying basket
Trade-offs
- Requires suitable sink edges and clearance
- Holes are too large for small grains
- No verified load rating or hands-on stability test

Facts: Grey single colander, with a measured-fit caveat
The official dimensions are 14–19 inches long, 7.9 inches wide, and 2.75 inches high. Some retailer text describes a different maximum length. We use the manufacturer’s 19-inch specification and would not buy it for a span that depends on an extra half-inch.
The basket is described as BPA-free, food-grade plastic, made in South Korea. Drainage holes measure up to 5 mm. This review covers one Grey colander, not another color, a multi-pack, or a silicone basket that collapses vertically. The sliding sections change its length; they do not turn it into a flat-folding bowl.

Features: the advantage is where the basket sits
Rinsing grapes over the sink illustrates the design’s appeal: the perforated base is lifted away from water collecting below it. That can leave more room for draining than setting a conventional bowl-shaped colander on the basin floor. It still occupies part of the sink opening, so think about whether you need that space for a large pan at the same time.
The broad rectangular form also offers a place to air-dry a few cups or utensils. Treat this as supplementary drying space. A collection of plates that needs upright supports may be better served by a dedicated rack. The small hanging hole gives another storage option if you have a suitable hook.
Before loading food, adjust the empty colander over your sink and check both resting edges. Rounded corners, a sloped ledge, faucet hardware, and accessories can matter as much as the tape-measure number. Avoid forcing the sliding sections beyond their intended travel.

Research: historical attention, practical questions
The Kitchn’s July 8, 2023 Aldi-strainer article named BLUE GINKGO as a similar product associated with TikTok attention. That establishes historical product-family coverage. It does not establish current viral momentum, sales, or demand for this exact Grey listing.
Our recommendation comes from the verified form and fit requirements, not that attention. A countertop colander may be a better choice if your sink is unusually wide or its rim offers poor support. A mesh sieve remains the better companion for ingredients smaller than the drainage openings. Those tools solve different problems rather than making this design universally better.

Safety: check heat limits and food-handling habits
The manufacturer calls the colander dishwasher-safe and heat-resistant, but the reviewed official specifications do not give a numerical temperature limit. Do not interpret those terms as permission to microwave it, leave it against a hot pan, or rely on an unverified boiling-liquid rating. Follow the instructions supplied with your exact item.
Although the brand mentions thawing, a draining basket does not make room-temperature meat thawing safe. USDA recommends controlled methods such as refrigerator thawing, cold-water thawing under its specified conditions, or microwave thawing. Do not leave frozen meat in this basket on the counter to thaw. Keep the colander clean between food-preparation and dish-drying tasks.

Buying: measure before comparing offers
Choose this if rinsing larger produce is a frequent task and you have compatible sink supports. Skip it if your main need is straining tiny grains or if buying it would depend on the disputed maximum-length figure. Measure the real resting positions, then check faucet and basin clearance.

Questions: what to check before ordering
Can it rinse rice?
No. BLUE GINKGO specifically excludes rice, quinoa, and other small grains because the holes are too large.
Will it fit a 19-inch sink opening?
Do not assume so. The listed 19 inches is the product’s extended length; its ends still need stable support. Measure the actual support points.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
Yes, according to the manufacturer. Check the supplied care instructions and do not transfer that approval to microwave or stovetop use.
Does it collapse for storage?
It slides shorter lengthwise. It is not the vertically collapsible silicone Aldi strainer discussed in the historical comparison.
