Verdict: a convenience tool for frequent fruit preparation

The Opal OXO Tot Grape Cutter is worth considering if quartering grapes or small tomatoes is a regular kitchen task. It replaces repeated individual knife cuts with a plunger action. The trade-off is a dedicated tool that must be taken apart, cleaned and reassembled.

Our recommendation is conditional: frequent users who value the specific cutting action may justify the drawer space; occasional users may be better served by a suitable knife and cutting board. This is a research-based review of model 61163200, ASIN B0CRCGR9XH. We have not measured speed, required force or long-term blade performance.

The strongest reason to buy is preparation convenience. It should never be bought as a guarantee against choking. A caregiver still needs to check the finished food and decide whether further preparation is needed for the person eating it.

Reasons to consider it

  • Purpose-made quartering action
  • Disassembles for thorough cleaning

Trade-offs

  • Only fruit that fits can be processed
  • Sharp parts and several cleaning steps

Features: a plunger, finger rests and a covered blade

Curved finger rests and a soft plunger provide the gripping points. The serrated blade divides a suitable piece of produce into quarters as it is pushed through. We have not measured whether that motion is easier for any particular user than a knife.

The tool’s narrow purpose can be a virtue when you repeat the same task often. It can also become clutter if your fruit choices change or you usually prepare larger produce. Count the times you would realistically use it each week rather than assuming a clever mechanism always saves time overall.

The included cap covers the lower section for storage. That is useful for keeping the kit together, but it does not make the tool a toy or a child-operated utensil. Keep the complete device and its loose parts securely stored away from children.

Research: attention to the family, exact-color limits

Food Network’s July 13, 2026 TikTok roundup includes the OXO cutter family. This supports editorial attention, not a measured current viral ranking for Opal. We do not infer sales totals, popularity growth or October 2026 demand from that appearance.

For this review, manufacturer information establishes intended fit and care; the official disassembly sheet establishes how the components separate. CDC guidance supplies the independent food-preparation context. Promotional wording suggesting that parents no longer need to worry about choking has not been adopted.

We also rejected a listing image with dimensions that conflict with the retailer’s specification field. A clear-looking graphic is not automatically a reliable measurement. If drawer clearance is important, confirm the actual assembled size before ordering rather than using the rejected graphic as a sizing guide.

Safety: cutting is only one part of food preparation

OXO’s official instructions warn that the cutter is very sharp during unpacking, use, cleaning and storage. Keep fingers away from the blade. The guide separates the body, plunger, spring and post, then calls for thorough cleaning and drying before secure reassembly. Do not treat a quick exterior rinse as equivalent.

Quartering alone cannot eliminate choking risk. CDC advises preparing food in a shape, size and texture appropriate for a child’s development. Inspect the actual pieces, including any that did not cut cleanly. Further cutting or another preparation method may be needed.

Children should sit upright and be watched while eating. CDC advises avoiding eating in a car or stroller and reducing distractions and rushing. The cutter’s portability does not make every on-the-go eating situation appropriate.

A targeted CPSC-indexed OXO grape-cutter recall search on October 11, 2026 did not surface a matching result. This limited check is not a safety certification or guarantee that a recall cannot exist.

Buying: balance repeated use against cleanup

Before paying, check Opal, the single-unit configuration and ASIN B0CRCGR9XH. Review the seller, total, delivery and return terms. Avoid making your choice solely from a title using choking-prevention language; that wording does not establish a clinical benefit.

Consider the entire routine: wash the produce, cut it, inspect the pieces, then disassemble and clean the tool. A household doing that frequently may welcome the dedicated mechanism. For a few grapes every so often, adding another sharp multipart utensil may not be worthwhile.

Do not use the cutter to remove pits. OXO specifies pitted olives, and the fruit still needs to be prepared appropriately before it reaches the tool. Oversized or hard foods are a reason to use another suitable method.

Questions: fit, sharp parts and choking precautions

Does this eliminate choking risk?

No. Inspect the finished pieces and prepare food for the child’s developmental stage. Shape, size, texture and supervision all matter. A cutting tool cannot guarantee safe swallowing.

Will very large grapes fit?

OXO says most seedless grapes. It does not promise every size will fit. Use another suitable preparation method if fruit will not fit comfortably; do not force it.

Can children operate it themselves?

The official instructions warn that the product is very sharp and must be kept out of children’s reach. Treat it as an adult food-preparation tool, despite the OXO Tot branding.

How do I clean around the blade?

Use OXO’s disassembly guide, handle the sharp parts carefully, and clean and dry every component. The manufacturer specifies top-rack dishwasher compatibility; reassemble securely afterward.
