Verdict: useful when you have a response plan
The GoveeLife Water Leak Detector 1s is worth shortlisting for a home with several places where a small leak could go unnoticed. The reviewed bundle supplies an H5044 gateway and five H5059 sensors. Its value depends on choosing useful locations, checking alerts and knowing who can respond.
Buy it with specific spots in mind, such as an accessible sink cabinet, appliance area or utility room. Skip the impulse purchase if your main requirement is automatic water shutoff: this kit reports water contact and does not close a plumbing valve. An alert still needs a person to deal with the cause.
This is a research-based review. We have not measured detection speed, range, sound level, notification delivery or long-term reliability. The strongest reason to consider it is practical coverage of several separate locations, followed by a careful setup check.
Reasons to consider it
- Gateway and five sensors in the reviewed bundle
- Replaceable AAA sensor batteries
- Local alarm plus remote-notification options
- Top and bottom water-contact probes
Trade-offs
- Remote alerts depend on the connected gateway and service
- Older Govee gateways need a compatibility check
- Advertised range and endurance are not guaranteed at home
- No automatic water shutoff

Facts: identify the bundle before ordering
Amazon calls this a five-pack but also shows six total items: five sensors plus one gateway. Sensor-only offers exist on nearby listings. Check the selected ASIN and contents, especially after changing a variation.
The batteries are serviceable. The manufacturer’s replacement video shows opening the screw-fastened cover, changing cells and restoring the waterproof pads. Follow that complete sequence; the battery-life estimate is not a direction to discard the sensor after five years.

Features: two connections do different jobs
The sensors communicate with the H5044 over Sub-1G radio. The gateway then connects to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. The long-range number describes the sensor-to-gateway link; it does not turn the sensor into a direct Wi-Fi device or remove the need for home internet when receiving remote alerts.
Govee’s setup illustrations use the Govee Home app. Set up the gateway, add each sensor and give it a location name you will recognize under pressure. A label such as “upstairs sink” is more useful than a number when you are away from home.
Top and bottom contacts offer two ways for water to reach the detector. The app illustration distinguishes which contacts were triggered. Treat that as a clue to investigate, not a measurement of leak rate or proof that the entire room is covered.

Research: the compatibility and alert details matter
The H5059 sensor listing explicitly excludes H5040 and H5043 gateways. If you already own a Govee system, read its model label before buying add-on sensors. Current H5044 guidance also lists H5830 cable sensors as compatible; the older “H5059 only” wording on some pages is incomplete.
The reviewed Amazon listing advertises app, email and SMS alerts, with SMS described as free regardless of usage. We found no required paid alert plan disclosed for this kit. That is the published offer at research time, not a promise that services, geographic availability or terms can never change.
There is a specification mismatch worth knowing: an earlier manufacturer-filed booklet says 95 dB, while current pages advertise 105 dB. That booklet also warns that repeated detections less than an hour apart will not trigger another app notification. We could not establish whether that interval applies to current firmware. Treat loudness and retrigger behavior as things to confirm, rather than assume.

Safety: detection has limits
IP67 combines a dust-tight classification with protection against temporary immersion under defined test conditions. It does not mean unlimited underwater operation. This rating is advertised for the sensor; keep the mains-powered gateway dry and away from a potential flood path.
Water has to reach the sensing contacts. The manual requires flat placement and warns against upright or uneven positioning. Choose likely collection points and keep detectors accessible for checks. After an incident, deal with the leak and inspect and dry the sensor before returning it to service.
Govee’s sensor-only FAQ says the device can sound an alarm without a gateway. This means the local alarm does not rely on internet connectivity, provided the battery is working and the volume is not muted. Remote messages have a separate dependency on the gateway and network. Do not assume a power or internet outage leaves remote monitoring intact.

Buying: decide what you will do after an alert
Write down your five intended locations before ordering. Consider where water would actually travel, whether a detector can sit correctly and whether you can reach it for maintenance. One sensor in a room does not necessarily cover every possible leak path.
Once installed, test from each final position, then confirm the notification channels you intend to rely on. Review Govee Home’s account and alert-setup prompts, then check the phone’s notification permissions and quiet-mode behavior. SMS is an online alert option, not evidence of cellular backup in the gateway. If someone else will respond while you are away, agree on the plan and access arrangements beforehand.
Compare the current complete-kit total, seller and return terms using the buying link. If you already have an H5044, a sensor-only pack may be the more sensible purchase. If the spot needs a remote sensing cable, compare the separately sold H5830 version instead of assuming a cable is included here.

Questions: answers before you buy
These answers apply to the H5044 gateway and H5059 sensors in the reviewed US bundle. Keep the instructions supplied with your unit for setup and maintenance.
Is a gateway included in this five-pack?
Yes. ASIN B0DQLFC3Q6 lists one H5044 gateway and five H5059 sensors. Check the selected offer because sensor-only variations also exist.
Will these sensors work with an H5040 or H5043 hub?
The H5059 listing says they are incompatible with those gateways. Use the specified H5044 rather than assuming all Govee leak detectors share a hub.
Does each sensor need to connect to Wi-Fi?
No. The sensor-to-gateway connection uses Sub-1G radio. The gateway uses 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Remote alerts require a working online connection.
Are the batteries sealed or replaceable?
They are replaceable AAA batteries, two per sensor. Manufacturer instructions show opening a screwed cover. Follow the supplied battery-access and reassembly instructions carefully.
Is a subscription required for SMS alerts?
The reviewed listing describes SMS as free and does not disclose a required paid alert subscription. Check current app terms and availability during setup.
Will it still make noise if internet goes down?
The manufacturer says a sensor can sound a local alarm without a gateway. A working battery and audible volume setting still matter; this does not establish delivery of remote messages during an outage.
Does it stop a leak automatically?
No water shutoff valve is included. Plan who will investigate and safely address an alert, particularly for a property left empty.
Is the 1,804-foot range guaranteed in my basement?
No. Treat it as an advertised maximum and test your actual placement. A basement, detached building or several walls can present a very different installation.
