Verdict: buy it for the separate-camera experience

The Black Kodak PIXPRO FZ55 is worth considering if you deliberately want a small, simple camera to carry separately from your phone. Its optical zoom and physical controls provide a different shooting routine. That is a clearer reason to buy than assuming every dedicated camera must produce better photographs than a modern phone.

We have not tested image quality, autofocus, flash consistency or real-world battery life. This is a document-based review of FZ55-BK. Think about the complete routine: carrying another device, keeping its battery charged, moving images off a card, and backing them up. If those steps sound enjoyable rather than inconvenient, the FZ55 becomes a more sensible candidate.

Reasons to consider it

  • Pocketable dedicated-camera format
  • 5× optical zoom
  • Rechargeable LB-012 battery

Trade-offs

  • Extra charging and image-transfer steps
  • Fixed non-touch screen
  • No hands-on quality comparison in this review

Facts: FZ55-BK specifications and battery identity

The exact Amazon ASIN is B09ZRN1N3Z. Kodak PIXPRO specifies a 16-megapixel-class CMOS sensor, 5× optical zoom, a 28–140 mm equivalent lens range, 1080p video at 30 frames per second, and a fixed 2.7-inch LCD without touch input. These specifications describe capabilities, not a quality ranking.

The FZ55 uses an LB-012 rechargeable lithium-ion battery charged in the camera. Do not transfer the FZ45’s AA-battery instructions to this model. The similarly named FZ45 also has a different optical zoom range, so model comparisons need more care than choosing a body color.

Features: optical reach and physical controls

Optical zoom changes the lens framing from wider scenes toward closer-looking details. That gives you flexibility while standing in one place, but the 5× specification alone does not establish sharpness, low-light quality or stabilization performance. Kodak lists digital image stabilization; it should not be described as an optical stabilization system.

Physical buttons let you keep photography in a dedicated device rather than switching between phone apps. The trade-off is a small, fixed display. Before a trip or important event, practice changing modes, using playback and moving files to the device where you edit or share them. Discovering a missing card reader after arriving home is an avoidable frustration.

Research: a dated compact-camera trend, with limits

Digital Camera World’s July 24, 2026 article discusses renewed demand for inexpensive Kodak-branded compact cameras and specifically includes the FZ55. That supports dated editorial interest and reported retail popularity. It is not an audited measure of current social reach for the Black Amazon ASIN.

The same article discusses other Kodak models, including the Charmera. Its model-specific viral claims should not be assigned to the FZ55. Our assessment instead focuses on whether this camera’s controls, rechargeable power and transfer workflow meet your needs. No customer-rating average has been turned into a Buy Now Reviews test score.

Safety and care: protect the battery and original files

The manual warns against water, sand, dust and excessive heat. Keep the lens protected, avoid disassembly, and use the specified battery and charging arrangement. Protect spare-battery contacts from metal objects that can short them. If the battery overheats during charging or use, stop and follow the manual’s guidance.

Keep the strap away from a child’s neck. Turn the camera off before removing the memory card, and copy images before editing or formatting it. Formatting erases stored data. A card is not a backup, so keep a second copy of pictures that matter before taking any action that removes originals.

Buying: check the package and transfer plan

The manual illustrates an LB-012 battery, AC adapter, Micro-USB cable, wrist strap and printed documents as standard accessories, with regional charger variation. It separately says a memory card is not included in every package. Verify the actual seller’s bundle rather than treating those illustrations as a guarantee of every marketplace offer.

Confirm Black FZ55-BK and ASIN B09ZRN1N3Z, add a suitable card if needed, and decide how files will reach your phone or computer. Compare the complete cost with using the phone you already own. Inspect return terms and seller details; price, stock and delivery estimates must be checked at purchase.

Questions: batteries, cards and connectivity

Does the FZ55 run on AA batteries?

No. The FZ55 uses the rechargeable LB-012 lithium-ion battery. The similarly named FZ45 uses two AA batteries and a different lens. Check the full model name before buying batteries or following a setup video.

Is a memory card included?

Do not assume so. The manual says a card is optional and is not included in every package. Confirm the chosen seller’s contents and budget for a suitable card if needed.

Will pictures transfer wirelessly to my phone?

Do not expect built-in Wi-Fi phone transfer. The documented workflow uses a memory card or USB connection. A compatible phone card reader may add a separate step and cost; check your phone connection before buying one.

Is it a touchscreen camera?

No. The official specifications identify a fixed, non-touch 2.7-inch LCD. You navigate using physical controls, so the handling experience differs from tapping a phone screen.
