Verdict: useful for a run of matching cabinet hardware

The Kreg KHI-PULL is worth considering when several cabinet doors or drawer fronts need matching knobs or small pulls. Its value is repeatable setup: you decide the location once, then use the same reference edge and guide settings. It is less compelling for one simple hole or hardware outside its supported positions.

This is a research-based review of ASIN B01JQ74J5E, not a hands-on drilling test. We have not measured alignment error, guide wear or resistance to movement while clamped. The jig can organize a careful installation, but it cannot choose the correct layout or undo a hole drilled in the wrong place.

Reasons to consider it

  • Repeatable edge reference for a series of parts
  • Steel guides within a lightweight body
  • Center position for knobs and paired positions for pulls

Trade-offs

  • Drill, bit and clamp are extra
  • Small-pull capacity needs checking before purchase
  • Published guidance conflicts at 128 mm / 5-1/16 inches

Facts: distinguish pull spacing from edge offset

Two measurements matter. Pull spacing is the center-to-center distance between the hardware’s mounting screws. Edge offset is how far the holes sit from the reference edge of the door or drawer. Kreg lists a 1–5-inch edge adjustment and several indexed inch pull positions. These are different settings, so a 5-inch offset does not establish compatibility with every 5-inch-long handle.

The basic kit supplies the jig components, not a complete drilling setup. Budget for a suitable clamp and a 3/16-inch bit. We retain the inch bit specification because the manufacturer manual and product page give inconsistent rounded metric equivalents.

Features: turn a chosen layout into a repeatable setup

The moving fence references the workpiece edge, while the drill guides establish the holes. For knobs, the guide moves to the center hole. For pulls, the manual shows matching the guide pointers and indexing features to the hardware’s center spacing. Secure the settings before repeating them across several fronts.

Our practical recommendation is to lay out the complete cabinet run first. Decide which edge each piece references and whether left- and right-hand doors need mirrored positions. A jig makes a chosen setting repeatable, including an incorrect setting, so test on scrap and hold the actual handle against the result before drilling finished fronts.

Raised trim and narrow rails deserve a physical fit check. Ask whether the fence can register squarely and whether a clamp can hold the base without tilting it. A tool that fits a broad flat drawer front may be less convenient on a decorative profile. Do not force a setup simply to use the jig.

Research: the size boundary needs special attention

Kreg’s current specification table includes 128 mm pull spacing, while its product Q&A says 5-1/16-inch centers are unsupported. Those measurements are almost equivalent. We cannot resolve that conflict from the published page, so buyers at this boundary should confirm the exact supplied jig with Kreg rather than assume either statement applies.

For longer pulls or a wider variety of hardware, compare the separately identified Cabinet Hardware Jig Pro and its stated limits. The plain KHI-PULL should not inherit a newer model’s capacity. For one-off work, a carefully prepared template is another approach; for repeated jobs, consider whether the setup time saved justifies an additional tool.

Safety: clamp the jig and protect the exit face

Follow the drill’s instructions and wear appropriate eye protection. The Kreg manual’s safety section tells users to clamp the jig rather than hold it by hand. Keep hands clear of the bit and the rear of the panel. Its non-slip pads do not remove the need for secure clamping.

The manual recommends clamping scrap wood behind the workpiece to reduce breakout as the bit exits. Protect the finished surface from trapped debris under the jig or clamp. Confirm what is behind an installed front, and remove or reposition the workpiece when necessary to keep drilling clear of surrounding components.

Buying: measure the hardware you actually own

Buy only after measuring screw-center spacing and checking that your cabinet profile offers a stable reference and clamping position. For replacement hardware, inspect existing holes before planning new ones; the jig does not conceal incompatible old spacing.

Confirm KHI-PULL, ASIN B01JQ74J5E and the basic package contents. Compare the total with the required drill bit and clamp, then review seller, delivery and return terms. Prices and stock vary. The current-offer link is useful only after the compatibility questions are settled.

Questions: avoid the common setup mix-ups

Does it include a drill bit or clamp?

No. Kreg specifies a separate 3/16-inch bit and a clamp, as well as your drill. Demonstration photos show accessories that are not part of the basic jig.

Can it install a single knob?

Yes. The manual places one drill guide in the center position for a knob. You still choose and mark the intended location.

Does it automatically center a drawer pull?

No. You establish the centerline and desired offset, then align and secure the jig. Repeated placement depends on preserving those settings and the same reference edge.

Will it fit a 128 mm pull?

Kreg’s specification table lists 128 mm, but its Q&A rejects 5-1/16-inch centers, approximately the same spacing. Confirm the actual supplied jig with Kreg before relying on this boundary size.

Can the guide prevent splintering by itself?

No. The manual advises a clamped scrap-wood backer where the bit exits. Material, bit condition and technique still affect the result.
