Verdict: a compact starting point for pocket-hole joinery

The Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig 320 with Classic 2-inch Face Clamp is worth considering for occasional wood projects when a portable jig is more useful than a bench-mounted system. The bundle addresses an important practical need: the jig must be clamped, and this version includes a compatible-style face clamp.

This research-based review covers ASIN B0B15KFCDW, model KPHJ320-22. We have not tested hole accuracy, joint strength, drilling speed, or clamp durability. The recommendation is conditional on using suitable wood thickness, the correct setup and screws, and a project design that actually suits pocket-hole joints.

Reasons to consider it

  • Compact portable jig
  • Two reconfigurable drill guides
  • Face clamp included in exact offer
  • Manufacturer setup and screw-selection guidance

Trade-offs

  • Needs a drill and suitable screws
  • Repeated repositioning for larger jobs
  • Limited material-thickness range
  • Exact consumable and case inventory needs seller confirmation

Facts: the -22 bundle is distinct from the base kit

Amazon names the reviewed bundle KPHJ320-22 and identifies UPC 647096811990. Its gallery shows the two-guide jig, spacer, stepped drill bit, collar, long driver bit, thickness gauge/wrench, clamp adapter, and Classic face clamp. This verifies the advertised jig-plus-clamp identity without importing every accessory from another kit.

Kreg’s official base 320 page specifies material from 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches thick. It lists a carrying case and 40 sample screws for that standard kit, but those details were not independently confirmed for this -22 bundle. Check before purchase if either affects the value you expect.

Features: separate setup controls for the material

The modular drill guides and spacer allow different hole spacing or single-guide use. That is useful when board width or access makes a fixed two-hole arrangement awkward. It still takes planning: hole location, edge distance, and screw path need to suit the joint.

The material-thickness stops position the jig, and the drill-bit collar controls depth. Measure the real stock thickness before matching those settings. Nominal lumber names are not a substitute for the thickness gauge or the manual’s setup chart.

The Classic clamp uses a manual adjustment screw. Its 2-inch description is reach; Kreg’s catalog separately gives up to 2 1/4 inches of material capacity for this clamp family. Neither figure expands the jig’s drilling range. Additional clamps may be needed to keep the workpiece secure and the finished joint flush during assembly.

Research: useful guidance, not guaranteed joint strength

Our assessment favors the 320 for small furniture builds, shop fixtures, and other appropriate projects where bringing a small jig to the work is convenient. Repeated production drilling may make a larger, dedicated setup more appealing because this portable system needs repositioning and clamping.

Pocket-hole performance depends on more than the jig: wood species, screw type and length, actual thickness, grain direction, and assembly all matter. Use Kreg’s current screw-selection guidance and a scrap test before drilling visible project parts.

The evidence includes the exact retail bundle, the official 320 page, and the 310/320 owner’s manual. We do not infer a structural load rating or promise that adding pocket screws makes any damaged furniture safe. The tool is also unrelated to a cabinet-hardware layout jig despite the shared brand.

Safety: clamp the jig and control the drilling operation

Kreg’s manual says not to hold the jig in place by hand while drilling. Secure it with a clamp and secure the workpiece. Follow the drill manufacturer’s instructions and wear appropriate eye, hearing, and respiratory protection. The stepped bit is sharp; keep hands clear of it during setup and use.

Check the thickness settings and stop collar before drilling. Use the manual’s screw chart rather than guessing: a screw that is too long can emerge from the far face. Test the setup on matching scrap when thickness or screw choice is uncertain.

Keep dust under control and avoid awkward hand positions that could put fingers into the rotating bit after a slip. During assembly, support and clamp the joint, then drive the correct pocket-hole screw until seated without overdriving. The clamp is a workholding accessory, not a substitute for safe positioning.

Buying: compare complete usable setups

Choose this bundle if you need both a compact 320 jig and the Classic face clamp. If you already own suitable workholding, compare the base kit against the bundle using confirmed contents rather than a headline piece count.

Questions: bundle contents and working limits

Does this offer include a clamp?

Yes. The exact ASIN is titled KPHJ320-22 with a Classic 2-inch Face Clamp, and the primary gallery shows that clamp. The ordinary KPHJ320 page describes the base jig kit rather than this retail bundle.

Are screws and a case guaranteed in this bundle?

We could verify 40 sample screws and a case for Kreg’s standard 320 kit, but not an exact accessory inventory for the -22 retail bundle. Confirm the selected seller’s package contents instead of assuming the base-kit list transfers unchanged.

Does the 2-inch clamp let the jig work on 2-inch-thick wood?

No. Clamp reach, jaw capacity, and jig material range are different. The 320’s supported stock range remains 1/2–1 1/2 inches, regardless of the clamp’s larger opening.

Can I hold the jig with my hand while drilling?

No. Kreg’s manual explicitly requires clamping the jig to the workpiece. Secure the workpiece too, and keep hands out of the rotating bit’s path.

Is it a cabinet-handle installation jig?

No. It drills angled pocket holes for wood joints. It does not locate cabinet knob or pull holes like Kreg’s separate cabinet-hardware jig.

Can I repair a chair with it?

A pocket hole may be part of an appropriate repair, but this review establishes no chair or joint load rating. Assess the original joint, damage, wood, and safe repair method rather than assuming an added screw restores strength.
