Verdict: useful for localized messes, with cleanup afterward

The Shark StainStriker PX201 is worth considering when small carpet accidents and washable upholstery are a recurring chore. A hose-mounted extraction tool can concentrate attention on one patch without bringing out a full-size carpet machine. The tradeoff is that the machine itself needs cleaning after the spill is handled.

The practical sequence combines cleaning liquid, hand-guided brushing and liquid recovery. You still move the tool and work the stain. It should not be evaluated as an automatic cleaning robot or a replacement for ordinary dry vacuuming.

Safety: follow fabric care and clean the machine after use

Read the fabric maker’s care instructions before wet extraction and test a hidden area when permitted. A carpet-and-upholstery description is not permission to wet every textile. Avoid saturating cushions or repeatedly spraying simply because discoloration remains.

The US guide specifies only the intended Shark formulas in the correct tanks and a maximum water temperature of 140°F/60°C. Remove tanks before filling. Turn off and unplug before maintenance; never immerse the powered body. Do not extract bleach, ammonia, flammable liquids or sharp debris.

After use, switch off and unplug. Lift the dirty tank upright, pull its handle back, remove the lid and empty into a sink or toilet. Detach the hand tool, open its cover to clear the airpath, and aim it into the sink while squeezing the trigger to release pressure. Rinse the float valve and check that it moves freely. Rinse the foam filter, air-dry it completely and reinstall it. For the powered hose rinse, switch off first, remove the CarpetXpert tank, fill to the Water line and refit it. Attach the hose-cleaning tool securely to the crevice tool. With tanks and filter installed, plug in, switch on and hold the trigger to flush the hose. Then switch off and unplug again, empty the dirty tank and let removable components dry before storage. If the hose is blocked, open its underside clog door only while unplugged, clear debris and close it fully. This extra work matters most after a tiny spill: setup and cleanup may take more commitment than the visible cleaning pass.
